Large cachepot, Loosdrecht
Decorated with a painting of a boy within a medallion
Round, shaped cachepot with an outstanding wavy
and scalloped rim of eighteen petals, and a hole on
either side. Each side displays a round medallion in
relief, linked by a looping length of drapery, also in
relief. The bottom of the pot has a hole and is left
unglazed.
The polychrome decoration within the medallion
shows a young boy playing with a wooden toy, pos-
sibly a perspective frame. He is standing on a sandy
ground, with behind him a large ruin. Also depicted
are trees, bushes and stones.
The other side shows two fallen items of garden stat-
uary.
Around the body is a puce length of drapery hanging
in swags from four golden rings.
Brown lines and touch-ups to the border, body and
foot rim.
A gilt line and touch-ups to the rings and outer rim.
These cachepots used to have catch saucers for un-
derneath, but few of these still accompany the origi-
nal cachepots (see next item).
The cachepot shown here is one of the largest of
its sort. A fine pair is held in the Hilversum Muse-
um’s collection, and another in a private collection
